FIFTY YEARS A CONSUL.
HONOUR FOR MR. F. A, KRULL. To act as Consul for one's country for fifty years in a land exactly on the other side of the worlrl is no ordinary service. That is tho period which Mr. Fr. Aug. Krull. of Wanganui, Consul for Germany for the Wellington " district, had served yesterday, and m honour of the occasion ho had been awarded the Prussian Crown Order, tho issue of which is limited to fifty. To mark tho occasion,' Mr., Krull's' brother Consuls and Consular Agents are to entertain him at dinner at the Grand Hotel on Friday evening next, when the Hon. C. J. Johnston will occupy the chair Mr. Krull, who is the senior German Consul for New Zealand, arrived here on Anniversary Day, 1850, and immediately afterwards established himself in business under the name of Messrs. Krull and Co.. merchants, which business existed until 1881, whou Mr. Krull removed to Wanganui, when he resigned his appointment. On account of his long and valuable services th» authorities declined to accept his resignation, and persuaded him to continue in office. This was made possible by the annointment, later, of Sir. Focke as Vice-Consul for Germany in Wellington. Krull was at one time a city councillor and has been a member of the Wellington Harbour Board, Chamber of Commerce, and was the first chairman of t'v Wellington Gas Company.
