DEFENCE ACT DEFAULTERS.
EARLY REGISTRATION ADVISABLE. Since the recent police' Court prosecutions some misapprehension has arisen as to tho position of those persons who, while liable to military service under tho Defence Act, have for one reason or another failed to register. • In response to inquiries on the point, Major-General Godley yesterday informed a Dominion representative that it is still perfectly open for late-comers to register. The Department is certainly preparing summonses against, defaulters under the Act, but in cases where tho registration comes to hand before the issue of the summons no proceedings are ac present being taken. From this, it is evident that any who have omitted to register would do well to get their papers in at oneo while there is yet time to avoid appearing in the Magistrate's Court.
