In the days of the old Provincial Government the Now Zealand Government Gazette was printed on official blue paper, which,lent the- little .four-pago publication a gloomy authority. One of these Gazettes, issued on February 16, 1863,, is not, however, without a gleam of humour to' lighten its. official y.'prpsin'css.v,--.';lft'on. as now thero were sheep" inspectors, and one stationed at Wangamii had gone so far ns to report Mr. Imlay's sheep as infected ,with scab, for in the issue referred to tho inspector, in a humblo frame of mind and with contrite heart, reports:— "l have the honour, to inform you . (J. "Woodward, Acting-Provincial Secretary) that I made a' mistake in reference* to Mr. Imlay's sheep. - Instead -if their being all gazetted scabby, thoy ought to have been scabby and clean, ';is a portion of them aro clean within paddocks.—l have, etc., G. 31'Gregor, slieep inspector."
