DOMINION DAIRY SHOW.

Next week is Hawora's red-letter winter period, the occasion of its second nnnu.il Dominion Dairy Show, which is to bo opened on Wednesday by his Excellency the Governor, and b bo continued for four days, closing on the, Saturday night. Last year's show, run with considerabh enterprise by the business people of Hawern, was a pronounced success, notwithstanding the fact that it rained practically the whole period of the exhibition. Fully 11,000 people visited the show, and tho total receipts were .£990, and (lie company made a profit of over JE^'tO; and although an expense of ,£3OOO had just been incurred over a new concrete building, tho organisation was enabled a fewmonths later to declare a dividend of ton per cent. Jt is confidently anticipated that this coming show will be a greater success than even that of last year. To make provision for the demands for increased space, the committee, with jts usual commendable enterprise, . decided to add another 10,000 feet of rcofed-in space, making a total oi'-1(1,00(1 feet under one roof. It is some satisfaction to note that success Ins; attended the efforts of the Show Committee. The demand for space has been phenomenal, and (ho entries, which have just closed, are a record, exceeding those of the previous year by nearly fifty per cent. Over 75 leading firms' will be represented at the show, and there will be big exhibits of all descriptions. The New Zealand .Agricultural Department has taken up 3080 feet of space, in which will be exhibited (he various products of its State Farms, with wholesale compendium* of information for tho instruction of farmers and tho.-e Interested in our great primary industries. Machinery. Dairy machinery in the home of the greatest, dairying district iu >"ew Zealand will naturally play a large part, and milk-

Lane, and liidd, and these in themselves will be a strong feature in appealing to a praeliral population which understands the first and last thing in milk extraction. The factories entering are:—Greylown, Cardiff, Xgncro, .lolls. Otakohe. AYererca, Hawera, Glover Kcr.ii, D.-lefield, Taratahr, Kakar.imea, Tir.'ii, Oicnui, Awatuna, and K.vponga. Pome splendid cups and trophies are being offered as prizes; the chief of these is the Henry Lane and Co.'s challenge iMip, valued at .fall, for the most points in white and in coloured cheese, to he ivon three times. This trophy was won last year by Cardiff, who are again competing. The Shaw, ftivill and Albion C">. offer a new challenge bow.l, valued at .£25, for the highest aggregate in cheese, while the New Zealand Shipping Co. offers a .£2O challenge cup for the most paints in cheddar cheese, coloured. Gillies and Xalder offer a fen-guinea challenge cup for the best, lot of butter while other butter prizes' are challenge cups presented by the AYinter Show Company, and the Taranaki Concrete Companv. These two hitler .prizes were won Inst' year by the Pihama Co-operative Dairy Company.
TII3 Governor's Visit, His Excellency is to arrive in Hawcrn on Tuesday night, when lie will l)c the guest of Mr. A. W. Gillies, chairman of the Winter Show Company. The same evening lie will attend the Hon. T. Mackenzie's lecture 011 Fiord I and, the proceeds of which are to lie devoted to the aid of Hospital funds. On Wcilne.-day Lord Islington will be taken out over the famous Wainiatc Plain.-., and shown Kaupoki'imi and liiverdaio I'actories. He will return to Hawera shortly after noon, and ho will then lie officially welcomed by the Mavor and councillors of Ilawern. At ■2 p.m.'his Excellency will ollicially open the Winter show, ami in the afternoon, between :l 'and I o'clock, at his express wish, he will hold a reception especially for farmers, [.aril Islington wishes to get as much as possible in touch with 111/ men on the land in New Zealand.
