LOS ANGELES DYNAMITING CASE.
AMERICAN POLICE METHODS, Bj Tolecraph— Press Association-Oopyrtehl New York, June 28. With a view to securing evidence for the prosecution in tho ■ "Los Angeles Times" dynamiting case, tho detectives confronted Mrs. Ortio M'Manigal, wife of ono of the prisoners, with her husband. Mrs. M'Manigal, on seeing her husband —who some time ago made a confession Implicating other prisoners nnd a number of outsiders—swooned away, and afterivards became hysterical. The detectives say they hoped the husband would induce his wife to abandon her defence. The defending attorney created a violent scene subsequently by asserting that the detectives were hounding the woman for their own purposes. Tho woman refused to testify. SYSTEMATIC DYNAMITING ALLEGED. In October, 1910, an explosion occurred at the "Los Angeles Times" building, re-sulting-in the. death of twenty-ono persons. A" bitter warfare had existed between the "Times" and the Los Angeles labour, unions, and the "Times" has always asserted that the explosion was the work of the labour leaders or their sympathisers. In April last, Mr. AV. J. Burns, one of the best-known detectives in America, arrested John M'Namara, secretary of the International Association of Bridge and Structural Iron Workers, his brother, James B. M'Namara, and Ortio M'Manigal. Burns declares that he has proof that those men wero directly concerned—not only in tho Los Angeles outrage, but in other dynamite explosions in various parts of America.
M'Manigal is said to have confessed that a gang of which he was one carried on a regular business of dynamiting, and caused explosions which cost 112 lives, and destroyed .£700,000 worth of property.
