At a moeling of the vestry of the local Anglicau Church it' was decided to purchase Mr. J. Olson's property of i acrcs for the vicarage, provided that satisfactory financial arrangements could bo made. Tuesday evening was ladies' night at tho weekly meeting of the Shannon Literary ami Debating Society, when the subject was: "That Fashion is Carried to Extreme." There was a large attendance of members and friends. Mrs. Gibson, who presented the motion, made an excellent speech, illustrating her points be reference lo a series of sketches of (bo prevailing fashions of different periods, and was especially effective in her reply. Mrs. Laurvig was also good in her opposition to tho resolution and was ably seconded by .Miss Monteath. Miss Wicklifl'e effectively supported Mrs. Gibson. Other speakers who took part in tlio discussion were' Mrs. Murdoch, Messrs. Gunning. Clayton, Jndd, Kxall. .Inlland, llonsinan, Gardiner, Tilling, and Selbv. On (lie motion being put it wns carried by Mil votes lo fl. The Rev. R. M'lvenzie, president' of the society, occupied (he elmir. Next week a Indies' "social" will be held and all ladies connected with (he sociely are invited to co-operatc lo make the function a success.
