LIVESTOCK SALES
Messrs. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., Tcport having held their usual stock sale at Waipukurau on Tuesday, when they offered 170 cattle and 14C0 sheep to a. large attendance of tho public. Bidding for fat cattle was not brisk, but sheep, especially hoggcte, wero in good demand. They quoto as follows:—Fat cow?, £7 4?.; fat bullocks, £8 55.; wcaucr Polied Angus mixed cattle, £2 13s.' Bd.; two-year steers, £5 25.; empty cows, £3; three-year steers. £5; Polled Angus hoifers, in calf, £3 2s. 5<K: eighteenmonths to two-year steers, £2 19s. fthcep, IC'3. 6d. to 125.;. cull mixed-sex hoggets, ss. Bd.; medium wethers, lioggets, 75.; two and four-tooth ewes, in lamb, 10s.; four and six-tooth wethers, lis. 7d.
Messrs. Dalgety and Co. report as follows regarding their Wanganui sale yes-terday-—Wo yarded 2580 sheep and CO cattle, and we have to report a successful sale. The demand for sheep was keen, biddins being animated, and with the exception of one. pen we. effected a total clearance at an advance on late ruling rates of from'ls;.. 6d.'tfl 2s. per. head, the rise being particularly marked in breeding ewes and hoggets. The bulls of the cattle yarded were dairy cows, mostly of rough quality, which failed to meet with a ready market, the bulk of them passing at auction. We quote:—Plain, fat ewes, 13?.; stM'c ewes, 6s. to 7s. 8(1.; four and fiveyear ewes in lamb to P.yland ram 3. 9?.; two-tooth to full-mouth ewes in lamb, 9s. 3d..: mixed-ape wethers, lis. lid.; Gmall two-tooth' wethers, 10s. 3d.; good two-tooth wethers, los. 5d.; small mixed two-tooths, 65.: mixed lambs, Bs. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on their Johnsonville sale as follows: —A hoavy yarding of exceptionally primequality bullocks came forward, and sold readily at good prices. There was a full yarding of'slieep, and these also wore'in good demand. We quote:—Prime heavy bullocks, £11 to £11 7s. 6d„ and £10 ss. to £10 10s.; lighter bullocks. £9 ss. to £9 ICs.; light, £8 to £8 17s. 6d.; vcalers, £2 6s. to £2 195.; good quality wethers, 18s.; plain wethers. 15s. 6d.; extra prime heavy ewes, 18s. to £1 os. 9d.; prime ewefi, 15s. 6d. to 15s. 9d.; plain owes, 13r-.. Id. to 145.; good lambs, Its. 6d. to lis. Id.
Messrs. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., offered a Gmall yarding at Masterton comprising half a dozen pens of sheep, two pens of fat cattle, also a couplo of pens c-f. cattle, including a line of good-condi-tioned bullocks. I'he attendance was limited, and buei-ness at auction was dull. However, a complete clearance was made. Aged bullocks in forward condition, £6 17s. 6d.; good-conditioned wethers, 12s. to 13s. Id.; forward ewes, 9s. 7d. to 10s. Gd.; store ewes, os.; good-conditioned hoggets, os. to 10s. 6d.; for an extra uood line c£ we!lwoolled sheep, fat ewes, 133. Td.; fat wethers, small and light, 14s. 6d.
ADDIXGTON STOCK SALES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Christcliurch, Juno 23. At Addington there were fair entries of stock and a good attendance. Pat cattle were easier in consequence of the large supply. Htorn sheep sold well. Prime fat lambs were Arm. and fat pigs showed some improvement. Prime fat oneep sold well, but medium and interior ewes we're rather easier.
Store sheep were offered in about same numbers aa last week, and wore rnado up chiolly of lambs, with a few pens of .ewes and wethers.. There v/as a good demand, especially for lambs, and these, with good sound-mouth ewes, sold if anything better than the previous week. A line of two-tooth ewce made 14s. lid., others lis.; mixed-aged ewes in lamb, 6s. 6d. to 7s. fid.; aged dry ewes, 4s. to 6s. Id. j rorward wethers, 12s. 9d. to 13s. 4d.; halfbred wethers, 10s. 6d. to lis. 2d.; mixed lines of lambs, 95.. 6d. to lis. Id.; others, 7s. 9d. to Us. 3d.; ewe lambs, lis. 9d. to 12s. Id.; and wether lambs, Bs. 6d. to 10s. 4(1.
The yarding of fat lamba totalled 3799, including a fair 'proportion of prime quality. A good many lots were, however, ,« only store condition, anil sold much better in the store pens, to which several lots were transferred. Prime lambs were, if anything, a shade lirmer than last week, and unfinished and inferior were difficult to sell. There were "821 taken for export- at 9s. lOd. to 19s. 6d.; 117 by butchers, at 12s. to 15s. lOd.; and 861 were passed at 7s. 9d. to lis. Id. Some lots did not clicit a bid.
There was a fairly large' yarding of fat sheep, including some large and prime lines of wethers and a. few lines of prime ewes. Tliero was a good demand for all well-finished sheep, both ewes and wethers, and the previous week's prices were firmly maintained. Jlcdiumc.imd inferior ewes were, however, a shade'easier. The range of prices was:—Extra prime wethers, to 345.; prime. 18s. to. 235. 3(1.; medium, 15s. Cd. to 17s. 6d.; light, 14s. 4d. to l£e.; prime ewes, 15s. to 19s. 9d.; medium, Us. 6(1. to 14s. 6d.; aged and light, 83. to lis.; merino wethers, 12s. Id. to 14s. 2d.
The supply of beef totalled 370 liead, ail increase of, nearly 100 over the previous week, and included several large consignments of prime cattlc from the North Island. The other part, of tile yarding consisted of prime steers, but in consequence of the heavy supply there was a decided decline in nrime, prime store ranking 2'* Ed. to 265. 6(1.; extra, to 235.; medium, 2Cs. to 225.: and cow and inferior, 19s. per 1001b. Steers made £7 IPs. to £10 10s ■ extra, to £17; heifers, £5 ss. to .€lO 155.. and cows £4 IPs. to £10 17s. 6(1. Xortli Ishnd steers made £10 to £12 12s. 6d. There was ail average yarding of veal ealvcs, and they brought. 4s. 6(1. to £3 12s, 6d., according to size and duality. Some useful linos of store cattle were yarded, but there was not much demand Two-year steers made £3 lis. to £3 IK; two-year heifers, .£3 7s. 6d.; thrce-vea'r steers, £6 ss. to £7 15s. (passed), and"dry co-.vs. 30s. and £2 lEe.
Good dairy cows sold well, prices ranging from £3 IPs. to £10 2". 6d. A medium entry of fat. nigs met with an improved demand and better prices. There was brisk demand and prices were very firm at late rates. Host bullocks, £10 10s. to .£l2 7s. 6(1.; one truck extra heavy, to £15 12s. 6(1.; medium to good. £8 Its. to £9 10s.; light, £6 10s. to £7 10s.: best cows and heifers, £8 IPs. to £9 10s.; medium to good, .T5 ss. to £7 10s.; licht. £1 10s. to £5 15*.
