Tho Governor-General, Lord Dudley, opened (ho Military College of Australia .to-day, which has been established under tho Defenco Act of last year to educate candidates for commissions in all arms of tho military forces of tho Commonwealth. The College is situated on tho Duntrooii Homestead in tho Federal Capital area, on a silo of 370 acres. The establishment of cadets has been fixed at 150, and tho first batch numbers sixty-three from Australia and ten from Now Zealand. Lord Dudley, in performing tho opening ceremony, said tho adoption of compulsory scrvico by Australia and New Zealand was a great testimony to tho determination of tho inhabitants to place themselves in a position for effectivo dofence. In welcoming tho Now Zealand cadots, tho Governor-General said they were nil glad that the Dominion had joined with Australia in this undertaking, and ho hoped tho Australian and Now Zealand cadets would make firm friendships that would lead to a closer bond between tho two countries, which stood as sentinels for tho Empire in tho Southern Seas. London, Juno 20. An explosion occurred on board the battleship Illustrious whilo sho was coaling at Spithcad. Three stokers wero injured.
