0 AUSTRALIA'S GIFT OF PLATE. Bj TclecraDh—Press Association—Oopyrieht London, Juno 26. Lady Northcote, wifo of tho ei-Gover-nor-General of Australia, presented Australia's gift of plato to tho battleship Commonwealth at 'Spithead. Captain Vaughan Lewes, in acknowledging tho gift, said ho had the greatest pleasure in accepting tho magnificent presentation, and ho sincerely thanked Australia on behalf of the whole Navy for the honour done them. SPEECH BY PRINCE LOUIS OF BATTENBERG. (Rec. June 27, 10.20 p.m.) London, June 27. Vice-Admiral Prince Louis of Battenberg, commanding tho third and fourth divisions, of tho Home Fleet, in a speech at tho presentation of plate to tho battleship Commonwealth, said:—"We of the Navy take the greatest interest in tho birth of tho Australian branch, and I am particularly delighted to havo the Commonwealth as one of tho ships under my command." Tho Commonwealth is a battleship of 10,350 tons, and was launched in 100,' J. She belongs to tho King Edward VII class, and is armed with four 12-inch guns, four 9.2-incli, and ten 6-inch guns, besides her smaller armament. She has a speed of 10.01 knots, carries a complement of 781 men, and cosl, including her guns, .£1,181,811.
