CHILDREN'S FANCY DRESS BALL.

"Spectator" (Eketahuna) writes:—To commemorate tne Coronation of Kins Georgo V, Jlr. and Jlrs. F. C. Turner, ol

Waiwaka (Eketahuna), gave a fancy dress ball ill tho J.'ublic Hall on Friday, June 2S, to the children of Eketahuna County.

'i'lio function was very enjoyable. A glance into ttie - gaily-decorateil bailroom —;t mass of Hags and the Koyal colours— gave au impression of a brilliant scene, 'i'lio stage, which was conveniently and comfortably arranged, was occupied by mothers and guardians, while tlicT gallery was crowded with spectators, who were charmed with tho animated and gay gathering. As all the children,—gay in their various fancy dresses—formed into lino for tho grand march, the onlookers felt almost transported into fairyland. Such a variety of beautiful dresses would be hard to describe. Tho little ones— soino one, two, and three years old—wero very winsmno, and among them wore fairies, who looked as if they would

vanish with a puff, and flowers that ono just wanted to gather. One little two-year-old (representing the South l'ole, all in white, and carrying the Union Jack), and a little one-year-old soldier in red, wcro not going to be out of (ho fun, so followed the procession and kept time with the rest to the music.

Many of the children who attended tho last Coronation ball given by Mr. and Mrs. Tnrnor wcro again present—somo married now, with their children. At 10 o'clock the small people went in to

supper, and the sound o? merry laughter and the cracking of. bon bone-spoke well enough for tlieir hapnine=9 md enjoyment of tho good things provided. After supner, tho dresses .and characters wcro judged, and prizes awarded as follow:— . Best fancy dress (eirls)—Linda Bray (Tairy"). lj Phyllis Walko ("Early Victorian"). 2. Boy's—Harle.v Lowes ("Quaker Oats"), 1. . . ti • Be«t original dr_\=s (gins)— May Harrison ("Boil Boil".), 1. Boys—Grorire Svver<■■oll ("AVhieli i? the Better Half? ), 1; Kov Grev ("Man and ■Woman"). 2. As there were about 130 fancy drcsse? (inostiv correct in every detail), it would take tin too much snaee to describe them nil. Mr. aii'l Mrs. Tumor must hsivo felt verv gratified ot the succr«s of the (■vcriing. and oils i< sure that their kindlv" action will long remain in the memories of the children of this di-tnct.
