GOOD TOW FROM WESTPORT.
TAKAPUNA BROUGHT IN.
Shortly after 1 p.m. yesterday the Komata, with the disabled steamer Takapuna in tow, arrived at Wellington from Westport. It will bo Tcinembered that, on Thursday' last, whilst inward bound from Wellington, the Takajmna's rudder was disabled in the Bullcr River, and she had a narrow escape from disaster.
It was subsequently decided that the Komata should tow her to Wellington, and a start was made nt 10 a.m. on Sunday. After a f?ood (though laborious) run of nearly-27 hours, the journey was accomplished. Good weather was experienced until Capo Tcrawhiti was reached, when. a fairly heavy sea was met with, both vessels shipping "groen ones" over the bows repeatedly. On the journey tho .Takapuna's engines wore called "on, and this helped the towinc considerably. Indeed, it is stated that the disabled steamer could have made the trip on her own steam, but tho Xomnta accompanied her for safety
Reports received in Wellington stated that the vessel's stern-post was carried away when she sltiiclc the eastern wall, near the mouth of the Bullet. It is understood that tho accident liapnoned about 300 yards from this spot. From inquiries made on her arrival, it was ascertained that tho Takapuna is not making any water. It is proposed to place her on the Patent Slip to-morrow, when flic full extent of the damage will bo known.
