Tho firing began at fifteen paces, and was to continue without cessation until ono of the contestants was incapacitated or killed. At the first exchange of bullets neither man was hit. At the second Herr von Gaffron fell mortally wounded in , the lungs. Hcrr Gailron wns fifty years of age and his adversary twenty-five.
