ASSOCIATION.
A BROWN SHIELD TEAM. (By Telegraph-Press Association.) Christchurch, June 23. The Canterbury Association team to play Otago for the Brown Shield is:— Webster, M'Nish, Watson, Fullorton (2), Jones. Ward, M'Donald, Bissett, Norniau, and Noakcs. DOMINION REFEREES' MEETING. The second annual meeting of the NewZealand Referees' Association was held in the Y.M.C.A. Buildings last evening, the president Mr. W. Monckton being in the chair. The following were also pre-sent:-Messrs. J. B. Paton (Auckland), E. W. Wells (Wellington), C. J. Ward (Canterbury), C. E. Fordham (Otago), and U. Yeoman, lion. sec. The annual report stated that the work during the past season had been mainly of on introductory character, the principal business being the adoption of a New Zealand badge, and a standard of examination for all referees throughout the Dominion. The main object of the association was to get all referees in NewZealand examined this season. Several centres' had different rulings on tho same law, and tho 'committee was endeavouring to secure a uniform interpretation. The committee had undertaken tho appointment, of officials for all representative games. The co-operation of all affiliated referees' associations was asked for with the object of improving the work and standing of referees generally. Tho following associations were affiliated:— Wellington, ( Wangaaui, and Southland. An association was being formed in tno Manawatu district.
The election of officers resulted as fol-lows-.—President, Mr. W. Monckton (reelected); sec- and trcas., Mr. H. Yeoman (re-elected). A letter was received from tho Wellington Referees' Association asking for a ruling on the following questions:—(l) In case of two players standing alongside one another, and one without moving his foot bumps his opponent, does this constitute a charge? (2) At a comer kick, a forward is in a position close .to the goal-keeper, Tho goal-keeper advances to meet' the ball, but is prevented from doing so by tho forward in question hustling him. Was iris action legal? (3) Please define "hustling" as mentioned on page 17 of tho referees' chart. It was decided to forward the letter to the N.Z.FiA., with a request that the questions be forwarded to the British Association for a ruling. •, The secretary was instructed to write to the Canterbury Referees'- Association asking for the names of referees who are available for the Brown Shield match Otago v. Canterbury. The New Zealand Association will meet on Friday, July 30, and make the appointment. HOCKEY. , FIXTURES FOR THIS DAY. Tho following aro the hockey fixtures for to-day:—
