_ * ■ PERSONAL NOTES FROM LONDON. London, May 13.

The Countess of Ranfiylv and Lady Eileen Knox have returned to 33 Lennox Gardens for the season. Lady Ward was the■ Kuest of Mrs. O'Hngan (formerly of New Zealand),, at luncheon one day last week. Mrs. O'Hasan entertained Sir Joseph Ward and Lady Ward at dinner at 5 Hay Hill, on May 9. Mr. and Mrs. J. . F.> Stndholmo, of Ruatli, have arrived in London, and havo taken a flat at 33 Dover Street.

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur E. G. Rhodes, of Christcliurch, arc staying at the Alexandra Hotol, Hyde Park Corner.

Mr. Ernest J. Cooke. of Canterbury, who arrived last mouth, has taken up his studies at Guy's Hospital.

Miss Margaret Dobbins, of Auckland, who arrived by tho Corinthic, propose; to visit the Continent after the Coronation.

Mr. Frank Brangwyn, the eminent artist, has designed tho New Zealand arch which is to be erected in Whitehall at tho Coronation. ■

Miss Renwick, tho new chief instructor for the domestic department of the Auckland Technical College, leaves for New Zealand by the Corintliic to-day week. Miss Fannie Hall-Jones has now recovered from tho effects of her operation, and has returned to London after three week's stay at .Bournemouth.

Amongst interesting functions which Lady Ward has attended recently was a ball given by .Lady Kaylor-Lcylaiid, at Hydo Park House, and the flying meeting at .Hciidon.

Mrs. Gorton (of Bulls) and Mrs. Levett (BnHs). arrived ' in England last week, and after visiting tho English Lakes and tho Continent, intend returning to New Zealand in October by. the Corinthic. Messrs. Charles F. and Walter Hayman, of Auckland, who have arrived in London', intend, after tho Coronation, to do a good deal of cycling through the North Country, and also to pay a visit to Scotland. . '

Mr;.'! , . , . S. ./Wallace, of Waverley, will bo in Loiidpn.for the Coronation period, and proposes-afterwards to tour in- Scot- , land, and to visit the Continent before leaving for tho Dominion from Marseilles on September 15. Mr./and Mrs., J. Watson, of Invercargill, who have come to this country for the benefit of Mr. Watson's, health, spent some little time in Egypt, Italy, and Prance on their way to England. Their return to New Zealand will probably bo in August. - ... Mrs. Findlay; wife of the New Zealand Attorney-General, spent part of. last week at Folkestone, ■ for the benefit of her health. The Hon. Dr. Findlay visited Folkestone on Friday, and returned to London with his wife on Monday. Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Sinim'onds, of Auckland,,who arrived by tho- P. and 0. India, intend to remain in England for about fivo or six months. They will visit Scotland and Ireland, and on the, homeward journey join their boat at Marseilles or Briiidisi.

Miss E. Heywood. of Christchurch, who has been spending the past year in seein« many parts of the Old Country, is in London just now. In July she hopes to visit tho Valley of the Wye, Devon, Cornwall, and Ireland, and then to proceed to the Continent.

Mrs. D. Barnicoat. of Wanganui, and her niere, Miss D. Phillips, of Windwistle, Canterbury, have recently arrived by the s.s. Corinthie on a. visi't to this country for the. Coronation. They havo taken a. flat in the West End, and hope to visit the Continent before returniu" in September. °

Mr. F. Storey, of Christchurch, anil his son, .Mr. F. S. Storey, arrived by tho Asranius. They will visit Yorkshire and Lancashire this month, and next, returning to London for tho Coronation. They

will probably leave for New Zealand at the end of September or the beginning of October.

Mr. W. Woolnongh Browning, who was at one time superintendent of tho cattle station at Nelson, and who lias seen

foreign service in Burma, Java, Cochin China, the Straits Settlements, -etc., has (after 37 years' hard work) retired from tho service, and decided to settle in Lon-

don. He is living at Finchley. Mr. J. W. Walker, of Waihi,' Auckland,

who lias been over in this country on business connected with the "Waihi Grand Junction mine since April of Inst year, has felt the winters in England so severely that he is trying to get through liis business in the next couple of months i:i order to return to New Zealand. Mr. and Mrs. W. Aiken and family, of Wanganui, are visiting England on an extended holiday, and will remain until about the end'of the year. After arranging for the schooling of their two youngest school children, Mr. and Mrs. Aiken intend to tour Great Britain, and see as much as possible of the-country. Mr. Wm, Scoular and Miss Scoular, of Oakland? Estate, Southland, arc at present in this country on a pleasure trip, having come via tho Continent. After leaving London they intend to see something of the provinces, later visiting Scotland, airl possibly Ireland. They will return via the United States and Canada.
