CORONATION DATES.
——H> ■ Juno 20, the dale fixed for.the Coronation of Edward VII, happened by an odd coincidencc to be the date originally fixed for the Coronation of Queen Victoria, but discarded by her as being the anniversary of tho death of her uncle, King George IV. William the Conqueror was crowned by Archbishop Alfred of York on Christmas Day, Monday, December 25, 10GB; and again with his wife Queen Matilda, at Winchester, 011 tho Feast of Pentecost, May 11, lOCS. -William Rufus was crowned on Sunday,. September 2(i, 1087. To come to later dates, Henry VIII and Queen Catherine of Arragon were crowned together on Sunday, Juno 21, St. John Baptist's Day, 1509; Charles I on Thursday. February 2, 1026, tho Feast of the Purification; Queen Henrietta Jlaria was neither crowned nor anointed; Charles I was again crowned in Scotland by Spottiswood, Archbishop of St. Andrew's, on Tuesday, .Tunc 18, 1033; Charles II was installed by the Marquis of Argyll at a rivil ceremony in Scono Parish Church on Wednesday. January 1, IGSI, and crowned at Westminster Abbey on Tuesday, April 23, St. George's Day, 1001; Cromwell had been installed as Lord Protector in the chair of Scotland, which was brought out of tho Abbey for tho purpose into Westminster Hall, on Friday, Juno 20, 1057. It is worth remarking that King Edward VII selected the anniversary of Cromwell's installation for his own coronation. George I was crowned on Wednesday, October 20, 1711; George II and Cjueen Carolin of Anspach on Wednesday, October 11, 1727; George 111 and Queen Charlotte wore crowned on Tuesday. September 22, 1701; Georgo IV, on Thursday, July 19, 1821; William 'IV and Queen .Adelaido on .Thursday. Septeml)cr 8, 1831. Tho coronation of Queen Victoria tool: place on Thursday. June 28, 1838, the Vigil of St. Peter and a fast day. Tho curious or superstition.? may find comfort or ill-omen, according to lemperomont, from the fact that Thursday, the day of tlio week selected by his Majesty for his coronation, was also tho Coronation Day of the following _ English fovereigns:— King Stephen, Kins John, Itichard 11, Charles T, James 11, William and Mary, Oueen Anne, George TV, William TV, Queen Victoria, and King Edward VII.
