ABATTOIR SLAUGHTERING.
:—$ ' REPORT FOR .MAY. ■ Reporting ■ upon operations at the Municipal (Ybdftoir, the manager (Air. Mackley) states that, during May, 2171 cows,. 502 bullockg and heifers, 10 bulls, <1781 sheep, 328 lambs, 52 calves, and 2 'pigs, .were slaughtered. Of the numbers stated, 27' ciws, 15 bullocks and heifers, 2 bulls, 2G sheepi' and one calf were condemned as unfit for human consumption. The fees.received on stock slaughtered nt ttao abattoir amounted to .JUG 3 175., an increase of <£31 17s. 2(1., compared with tho previous month. The fees received from meat export elaiighterhouses on meat sold within the ■ abattoir . area amounted to JUI46 3s. 3d., an increase' of 13s.' 5d." on April. The suni collected.for the sale .of offal and runners was £125 13s.' 2d;,' an increase of £9 10s. sd. The total amount for the month was £435 -19.?,. 7d., 0r.£42 7s. more than that collected .in April. There was aiv increase in the 'slaughtering for the month of 222 cattle and 812 sheep and a decrease of 177 lambp, 1 pig, and 17 calves. Tho stock slaughtered, for the'retail trade for the month was of exceptionally fine quality.' The increase of stock slaughtered-in themonth compared' with the corresponding month of 1910 was. 436 cattle, 2460 sheep, 20 calves, and one pig. "Owing to the increase of work at the abattoir," concludes' Hie report,- "I would ask your council to grant me some further assistance."
