HOSPITAL AFFAIRS.
INSTALLING ELECTRIC LIGHT. The Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board met yesterday. There were present: The Rev. W. A. Evans (chairman), and Messrs. D. M'Laren, W.-Gal-loway, 'J. Godber, B. R. Gardener, W. Tompsitt, G. Nash, D. Robertson, 11. Baldwin, G. London, J. Trevor, R. Fletcher, the Rev. H. Van Staveren, and Miss M. Richmond. The fortnightly return of patients showed that on May 30 there were 290 patients in the hospital, as against 253 at this time last year. To June 12, 117 patients were admitted and 119 discharged, as against 103 and 10G respectively during the corresponding period last year. Details show tsa£ there ars 20 the hospital, as against 250 at this time last.year. Totals show that there are 20 male and 19 female patients in the Victoria Hospital; 15 males and 8 females in tho Seddon Hospital; 9 males and 30 females in tho Infectious Ward; G males and 6 females in the Children's Hospital; and 93 males and 84 females in ■ tho General Hospital. The Finance ajid Property Committee reported:—That an exhaustive inquiry was inado into the system of accounting in the office, and an examination was made of all the books. Everything in connection therewith was found to bo satisfactory, and tho matter of collecting accounts is being established on a thorough and sybtematic basis. Tho committee hopes.that within tho month this system of accounting will be established throughout tho institutions of tho board. . ~.. .. .. --. -■ . Tho chairman stated that, as a result of the investigations mentioned, everything had been found to be in a very satisfactory state. It had been said that the system of storekeeping and accounting which obtained under the Christchurch Board supplied a model for the whole Dominion, but the speaker thought that the system now being-adopted in Wellington would give points even to Christchurch. The committeo recommended:— That a "Hospital Saturday" and "Sunday" be observed during the 'first week in October, and that a letter be sent to tho representatives of the various associations and churches in,the city and district soliciting their co-operation; the bajids to bo specially asked for their assistance. That a committee consisting of tho chairman, Messrs. Kirk, and London, bo a, deputation to wait on the City Council in- reference-to the strip of land, Salamanca Road. Tho report was adopted. The Lighting Committee recommended: —That the tender of Messrs. Cederholm and Tolley, of .£626 Bs. 6d., being tho lowest and in order, be accepted for tho installation of electric lighting and heating at the Wellington Hospital. That the chairman of the committeo be authorised to -have installed whatever extra heating points he considers may be necessary. Tnat Mr. Geo. Lauchlan bo appointed to act as inspector under the contract on behalf of the board. That the agreement with the City Council for supply of electricity submitted by the City Solicitor bo executed on behalf of the board. —Adopted. Mr. B. R. Gardener moved:—"That a return be made out and placed before tho next mooting of the board, giving particulars of all persons in employment of the board on June 30, 1911." Mr. Gardener, speaking to his motion, said it was only right that individual members of the board should be conversant with tho number of people employed by the board, and with tho wages paid, EO that they, might bo enabled to institute comparisons, if necessary, with the work.ing of institutions conducted with other boards. ■ Mr. R. Fletcher seconded the motion, which was adopted without discussion,
