THE TREES THE KING PLANTED.

IN OUR OWN CITY. In tho grounds of the present Parliamentary Buildings (tho old Government House) there aro two interesting reminiscences of the visit of tho present King to Wellington. That visit, it will be recalled, was made just ten years ago this week. His Majesty stayed at Government House, and on Juno 21, 1901, ho planted two trees in tho grounds. One is a silver birch, and the other a copper beech. It is ea;y to find them from the labels that havo been affixed to them. In the ten years they have both grown into sturdy young trees. Tho date on which they were planted coincides with the date of the eve of the Coronation. In other parts of the grounds are other trees, no.v grown to maturity, which were planted by the Duke of Edinburgh.
