WALKING IN SLEEP.
» A SAD INCIDENT. (By Mctrllfch.—Spccial Correspondent.! Auckland, Juno 19. A poliwjian on duty at Newmarket at 5.30 o'clock this morning saw a young woman wandering about the street clad only in liisht attire. When approached it was found slio was walking in her. sleep, and on being awakened she was unablo to give any account of herself. Her memory had gono completely, lifting in an exhausted condition, and suffering obviously from exposure to the bleak weather, the unfortunate woman received temporary attention at the hands of the Newmarket police, and was then hastened to the district hospital. The police made immediate inquiries, and it was ascertained that the young woman, who is 21 years of age, was employed by an Oitehunga resident, and regarded as a very efficient and industrious servant. She attended church last evening, and reaching home soon afterwards retired to bed about U. 30 o'clock. Her disappearance was discovered about 0.30 this morning, and somo anxiety was occasioned by the fact that all her clothes were in her room. The Onehunga police wero immediately apprised of the occurrence. It is evident t.lat tho young woman, who is afflicted with somnambulism, walked away from tho house in her sleep, and wandered about throughout last night till found at Newmarket this morning. Tho parents of tho young woman livo near llelensvillo. After admission to tlio hospital she recovered her memory, but had no recollection of tho incident overnight. She is likely to suffer from tho eiTects of exposure.
