GAIETY THEATRE FIRE.
INQUIRY, VERDICT, AND RIDER, (By Telegraph—Press Association.! Napier, .Tune IS. A coronial inquiry was held to-day info the circumstances attending the fire on .Tune G by which tlio Gaiety Theatre, used also as a motor garage was completelv destroyed. The jury found that the fire was caused by the ignition of fumes of benzine while filling the tank of a motor-car, but that there is no evidence to show the causa of such ignition; that the premises were used as a motor garage day and night, and during the evening as a kincinatograph place of entertainment; that approximately five or six c.t*cs of benzmo wore stored in close'proximity to the theatre; that the building was unsuitable e.s n place of public amusement: by reason of (he materials of which it was composed, it bcin" unsatisfactorily .constructed with rcard to exits, and most unsatisfactory ns"'a place of public amusement owing to its being used as a motor garage. Tlie jury added the following rider:— That it be a recommendation to the ]iorou'di Council that: in new of possible outbreaks of fire ill future such steps be immediately taken as will ensure the safety of the public boforo licenses are issued or renewed for places of public . amusement,
