ENGLAND'S BUTTER TRADE
CHANCES FOR NEW ZEALAND,
Tho following is, from a recent issuo of the London "Grocer":—
"We take the opportunity of wishing bon voyage lo Mr. W. F. 'Chrichton, of Manchester, who was formerly tho .honorary secretary of the .British Committeeof Danish Importers; and who has just embarked upon the Macedonia for an extended hip to Australia and New Zealand. The object is to further the interests of Messrs. W. Weddel and Co., Ltd., tho well-known butter importers, of London, and with his experience in the bntter trade, especially in colonial products, the visit should l:n productive of much good. There can be no doubt that there are great possibilities in this country for colonial produce, for the butter merchants are by no means satisfied with the way the Scandinavian business is manipulated; in fact, it is no secret to say that.tho trade at present 'is hardly worth the while.' We are of opinion that if the colonies could send us a regular supply of butter all the year round, that would- provide them with a weapon to compete on much better terms with the Scandinavians. Wβ believe that Mr. Chrichton will be able to convey to the colonies such practical information of our requirements, particularly the conditions which orevail in the North of England, as will-bring about an advancement 'down under,' and be to tha betterment nf the butter trade , in this country. ' It may be mentioned, in passing, that J[r. Crichtnn was recently appointed a director of one of the largest cottohsninning comnauies, and we Itust that bis business Mil to Australia and New Zealand will bring him further, laurels. Tie is exnected to arrive Home about the end of the year." '
