Pakeha, after scoring two goals in t'ho early part of (he first spell, acted on the defensive for the remainder of the game. k'arori defeated Post and Telegraph by 2 goala to nil. Hereawa had an easy w;n over Petoue B. The match Hui MaiArtillery had Co'be put off, the caretaker of the ground set down for the match having received instruction at 10 a.m. not to allow any games to take place there. PAKEHA-PETONE A. The match Pakeha v. Petono A was played at Potniic. on a very wot ground, [the lower half being partly under water. lln the first spell Pakeha attacked lroni tlie "bully-off.-' and some fine passing by the forwards enabled them to reach Pctone's circle, when a hot puss from Koacli to Grncie enabled the latter to score. On play again starting, Petone held its own ior a time, but the fine combination of Pakchn presently carried play into Pctone quarters, and ihompscu sccied the second goal. Petone were now igettinj info their stride, however, and were making the game fast and open. Foe the remainder of the spell they kept Pakeha defending. in the .second spell Petone had ai! the best of tho game. Pakehn, time after time, had to drive the ball. over the "dead time" to keep their opponents from scoring. In fact they only crossed t]\s half-way line twice during the spoil. Their defence was stubborn, however, and tho call of time left Pelone with its first defeat by 2 ;;oals to nil.

For Pakehn.it would 1m hard to single out anyone for special mention as the team were playing "the game of their lives." For Petone the M'Ewan Bros., Pointon, Beswick, and Parrant were the pick of a good lot. Mr. J. C. Cusack was referee. KAROEI—P. AND T. The match ICaron v. Pc;t and Telegraph was played at ICarori, the ground being in good order. In the first spell play was very even, both .sides playing and the play going from one end to the other. Half-way through the spell Henderson (Karori) started a passing-rush, which ended up by Picct finding the net. From a cor-ner-hit, Post end Telegraph found the net, but the goal was disallowed on account of the ball not being stopped dead. In the second spell both sides had many chances to score, hut, owing to bail shooting, they were missed. From a scramble in Post and Telegraph's circle Picot_ managed to notch the second goal for Karori. When time was called, P. and T. were attacking. Karori won by 2 goals to nil. For Karori, K. Spiers. Gayford, Cooper, Lows, Cole, and Picot were prominent, while, for P. and T.. Xicho'.ls, Hadfield, Cameron, M'TCay. and Craig were tho best players. Mr."Simpson was referee. HEREA'SY.',—PETONE B. Owing to the soft state of tho Basin Reserve, this game was played at Kilbirnie. From the "buHy off" Pciioue carried tho .struggle into Hereawa's circle, and. wereunlucky in not scoring, the. ball just missing the net. From the bully off at the twenty-five line, Caterer took'the ball right down tho field, passing to Kuch, who scored for Hercawa. After a lot of even play, fho Hercawa forwards forced tho game into Pctone's circle, nnd Jalin scored. In tho second spell, Petono for a time held its own, hut then Hereawa, plavinrc _(vi^h,;)T)oi^!|.combination,.had f hr>- best of tho game, and scores were madebvCragg Caterer, and Kuch. Tho same'ended: Hereawa, 5; Petone, 0. For tho winners, Caterer. Clemcntson, Kuch, and Cragg wore the best men, while, for Petone. Burnes, Lowie, M'llraith, and Naulcivillo were conspicuous. Mr. Empson was referee. REFEREES FOR. SATURDAY. The following referees bavo been appointed for Saturday's matches:— Senior: At Karori No. 5, Mr. Grindrod; at Day's Bay No. 1, Mr. Gendall; at Day's Bay No. 3, Mr. Carver. Junior: At Day's Bay No. 5, Mr. Forrest; at Day's Bay No. 2, Mr. Luckie; at Miramar No. 3, Mr. M'Dowall; at Karori No. i, Mr. Manning; at Duppa Street, Mr. Ryan; at the Basin Reserve, Mr. M'Kenzie. . Third Class: At Miramar No. 2, Mr. Cockerell; at Day's Bay No. 1, Mr. Disher; at Hutt, Mr. Austin. Tho Wednesday Hockey Association have decided to support the Kilbirnie residents in their efforts to obtain a larger recreation reserve, and have appointed Mr. Manning (secretary of the association) to represent it on tho deputation to the City Council to-day.
