CHEAPER CABLE MESSAGES.
POSITION OP CANADA. By Teleeraph—l'rcss Association—Oopyricht Melbourne, Juno 13. Some question has arisen as to how cablo messages to Canada would be treated under the Postmaster-General's new scheme for skil!ing-a-word rates for deferred messages to England, via the Pacific cable. The Minister's proposal is to cable the messages from Australia to Montreal, and thenco forward them by post to London, tho time occupied in transit being four days. At present cable messages for Canada are charged for at the rato of 2s. 4d. per word. Possibly arrangements could bo made for a shilling a word for deferred delivery messages.
