To-day the Hon. J. Carroll, the Hon. G. Fowlds, the Hon. R. M'Kcnzie, tho Hon. T. Mackenzie, and tho Hon. A. T. Ngata will be .in Wellington; the Hon. J. A. Millar will bo en route to Wellington from New Plymouth, and the Hon. D. Buddo at Auckland. The Hon. G. Fowlds leaves to-night for Christchurch.
The Hon. D. Buddo will represent, tho Government to-day at the annual idinner of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. G. M. Thomson, M.P., who lately underwent a successful operation for appendicitis while staying with his son at Hawera, is now spending two or three days in Wellington beforo returning to Dnnedin.
Mr. J. B. Hine, M.P. for Stra.tford, arrived in Wellington last evening, for tho purpDse of interviewing Ministers on matters relating to his electorate. Ho will remain in town for two or three days. The member for Stratford intends to address his constituents in the principal centres of the district- beforo tho opening of the session.
Jlr. W. l'ryor, secretary of the New Zealand Employers' Federation, left yesterday l>y the Mapourika for Nelson, where lie will attend the annual meeting of the local Employers' Association. Ho returns to Wellington on Saturday.
The Roman Catholic Bishops of Christ church (Dr. Grimes), Dunedin (Dr. Yer don), and Auckland (Dr. Cleary) are visiting Wellington at the present time, hold ing a conference with Archbishop Red wood on Church affairs within the Do minion.
Dr. M'Guiro has been appointed senior resident medical officer, and Miss M. 11. Griffiths (matron of tho Nurses' Club, Dunedin) lady superintendent of tho Au'cldand Hospital. There were six applicants for the former position, aud 33 •for tho latter.—Press Association.
Says our Hastings correspondent: It is staled on good authority that Ml - . A. E. Juil will stand for the Hawke's Bay seat at the next general election.
Mr. and Mrs. P. Hatton Miller, of "Hatton," Tinakori Road, are leaving on Thursday by .the, Moeraki on an extended tour of the Australian colonics.
Archdeacon Calder has received a letter from England containing the welcome news that Bishop Neligan has entirely satisfied his London doctor as to his fitness for pastoral work, provided it be not too hard. Tho day the last mail left lie was offered and accepted the rectory of Ford, Northumberland, a quiet village with a beautiful rectory, tho stipend accompanying the benefice being sufficient to place the new rector's family beyond financial anxieties. Dr. Neligan was locum tcnens at Ford during the summer of 1901, and has never been forgotten, the people being delighted when Lord Joicey, the patron of tho living, decided to offer it to him.
Lieutenant Sydenham (Resident Agent of the Admiralty at Westport), who has been iu Wellington on official business during tho last fe\v days, left by tho Mapourika for Westport yesterday.
Tho Very Rev. Dr. Kennedy, Tector of St. Patrick's College, is at present in Canterbury, attending the funeral of his mother, Mrs. Bridget Kennedy, widow of the late Mr. Duncan Kennedy, who died at Morvcn on Sunday night.
Mr. E. M. Sandstoin (violinist) and Mr. Charles Hill (flautist), of 'Wellington, liava been engaged as members of the Sheffield Choir orchestra for New Zealand. The local members of the orchestra will leave for Auckland on Friday next, and will go into active rehearsal' under Herr AVielaert, immediately on arrival.
Mr. Percy Denton, son of the late Mr. W. Denton, of Wool comb? S'reet, who has been engaged in tho business of. a watchmaker and jeweller at ta.u..ua ana Simla for over ten years, is now on his way to Wellington to take up an appointment with Messrs. Littlejohn Son, with whom ho was formerly associated. Mrs. Denton has been in AVellington for somo months.
Tho death is. recorded of Mr. Samuel Curtis Candler, City Coroner of Melbourne. Mr. Leonard • Bonvick, the celebrated English pianist, is due to arrive in Melbourne from London on Monday next.
Mr. A. Leigh Hunt, manager of the Neir Zealand Farmers' Co-operative Distributing Company, left by the Mam Trunk express yesterday on an extended business visit to the principal towns of tho iNortJi Island. Mr. F. M. B. Fisher, M.P., has received invitations io address political _mccuiiks in tho Wairarapa, and at' Hastings, I\apier, nunterville, and Wanganm. He will also probably speak at Dunediu before the session opens.
A requisition is in circulation in Petono to get Mr. F. JI. B. Fisher, M.P., to deliver a political address there.
At last night's meeting of the Industrial Association Mr. T. Btish, ,of tho Union Clothing Company, and Mr. A. R. V. Lodder, Willis Street, were elected members of the association.
Jtr. H. IT. Allen, Exhibition secretary, has been informed per official communication that the Governor was greatly interested "in his visit" to the Coronation Exhibition, and hopes to visit it again, with Lady Islington, when they are in residence in Wellington. In tho course of an acknowledgment of the letter, Mr. Allen said lie would be pleased to know of the date of the nest visit.
"When it is stated that tho amount is ,£2OS, yon will see that we have been'insuring," said the chairman of the Exhibition Committee (.Mr. T. Ballinger) at last night's meeting of tho Industrial Association. "But we hail a fire," a member remarked.
