GO-AS-YOU-PLEASE RAILWAY METHODS.
Sir-I have often- wondered whether , the railway here is run for the boneist of the public" or is it an to tad v-nrk for Government suppoircrs. o Joseph AVard (and Joseph ls able man) informs us that 1 f ,^ c, vo Z r f land railways arc the finest in the warm. I wonder. But the point is here: On Wednesday night, June ~ I ® out at th Lower Hiitt. I inearly broke m nccL rushin" to the station to catch the train back to Wellington, which was t,Tn f d .. t ° leave the Hutt at 10.29. I boarded the train and made myself comfoitable. 11k, station bell was vigorously rung then Le engine whistled loudly. Eventua ly we steamed out of the station at 10.U only fifteen minutes late, the P-neiat ton'c of conversation was: I wowkr if I shall Bet a car?" We arrived at lambton Station at 11.15 p.m. A desperate rush was made for the car, which was soon practically full, A\e had just made ourselves comfortable when a voice announced: "Special car, ,-ul faie» av n°nce!" It was surprising to see how soon that ear disgorged its would-be passengers. The only alternative was to walk home and feel pleased. _Is the time-table just published as a joke for the beneEt of the public? lou knon, it reallv is awfully funny to pay sixpence for a penny car ride. Do you see the jolcs? —I am, etc., AN ADMIRER OF THE HUTT SERVICE.
