Sutt Couniy' Council met yesterday Those present were: Councillors M. J. -Lynch (cnairinan), J. Wakeham. W. Galloway, T.'Edwards, J. Whiteman, and H. W. WelchThe Inspector of'.Works reported that during the ,last month the • metalling and repairing generally of the-roads throughout the'county', had 1 been' undertaken. The Rimutaka Hill."Road, near the Summit, had been widened at dangerous places, and river, protection works had. been carried out at .Pakuratahi. Preparations were beitfg'made for the erection of Mangaroa. bridge. About 3500 feet of totara timber had'been ordered from Taumarunui for the erection of a bridge at the waterfalls, Judgeford. .No tenders had been acceptedfor ' the Hutt-Waikanao Road; .that of Messrs. Aplin and Sapper, was accepted for Phillips Road, and that of Mr. .o.' ,Clark for Cattle's Road to Normandale.

Mr. A'plin,'. contractor for repairs to Plimmertori , township roads, claimed -£I 1 extra frir.'work done that was not in the specifications, but which had been agreed upon" between himself and the representative of the riding. It was decided to'pay half the sum without prejudice. .

It was decided to construct five chains of road at Ataihanga.

A road at Belmont that had not been dedicated, : but which the county has been maintaining, is to.be brought under the notice of the Registrar, with a request that it be gazetted a public roadway. It was decided to borrow ,£3OO under the State Guaranteed Loans Act for a road at Wainni.

A resolution was passed that the Upper Hutt Town Board be asked to increase its offer towards the cost of construction of the bridge at Moonshine River. Mr. E. Gardiner's application for a slaughterhouse license was granted. . Advice'was received from the Treasury of tho following payment of grants-in-aia accounts: —AVaikanae to L'pper Hutt, .£23|V 95.; Moonshino to Wainui, JilOO; Moonshine to Whakataki, .£SO; Paraparaumu to beach, ,£1000; AVhiteman's Vallej, j£100; Cook Road, .£75. Authority was also received from the Public Works Department for expenditure of grant-in-aid of ,£IOO oh Cottle Road to Normandale Road.
