There was a good attendance of members at the annual meeting of the Munawatn Horticultural Society last night, and the Mayor (Mr. J. A. Nash) presided. The chairman threw out a suggestion that a Horticultural Societies' Association should- be formed, and this will probably be adopted. The local Fruit Growers' Association intimated that its individual members would be pleased to assist tho Horticultural Society ill any way possible, but that it would" not amalgamate.

. In respect to the latter, it appears that, though the- Fruit Growers' Association lias been moribund for some five or six years, it • has a substantial cash bnlauco'lving to its credit ill the bank. Tho horticulturists are naturally not altogether oblivious to this. A meeting of citizens is to b-e held on Thursday evening to discuss what steps shall be ; - taken to raise funds lor the crection of the proposed children's ward at the local Hospital.

At a meeting of the Management Committee of the Palmerston Brass Band last night (the president, Mr. AY. There was a lieavj fresh in the river at the time, and an m>-con try settler endeavoured to cro»s on hor=ebaek. It was also asked to lease the remainder of tho reserve to tilt- board for grazing purposes. Several councillors were in favour grnnting the land free of charge, and it was ultimately decided that the matter be left in the hands of the councillors for the riding, they to meet the chairman of the Hospital Board at tho ground on Thursday next. The coun ; cil decided to apply for a ,£ for J2 subsidy oil the ,£2OO. that has been placed on tlio comity estimates for the widening of tho top section of the Pabiatua Road between Palmerston and Pahiatua.

A really fine exhibition of the work carried out by the pupils ot the I'almerst.on Technical School was opened at tho school this evening, the rooms upstairs being set aside for the purpose. Tho principal feature of the display is, of courf?, the art work, in which division the pupils hove produced specimens of brush work (oils, water colours, and crayon work), drawing and pointings from life, light and shade work, and work from the cast are all exhibited, and form an excellent display. Examples of stencilling and leather work are on view, and also—what should appeal more, to the ladies—hats in tho. various stages of making.
