To-day the Hon. J. Carroll will be at Carterton, tho Hon. G. Fuwlds in AYelliiigton, the Hon. J. A. Millar at New Plymouth, the Hon. R. M'Kenzie in AVelllngton, the Hon. T. Mackenzie in AVellington, and the Hon. A. T. Ngata in "Weilington. The Hon. D. Buddo is also expected to bo in Wellington. Tho Hon. J. Carroll, Acting-Premier, went to Carterton last evening to attend a Liberal and. Labour gathering. The Hon. G. Fowlds leaves for Christchurch on Wednesday to officially open the new Children's and "Women's Ward at the Christchurch Hospital on Thursday afternoon. He returns to "Wellington on Friday. The Hon. J. A. Millar left for New Plymouth yesterday on Departmental business. Ho is expected back to-morrow. The Hon. T. Mackenzie will represent tho. Government at the Coronation celebrations at Christchurch. Mr. George Innes, manager of the AA T anganui branch of the Bunk of New Zealand, who will leave in a day or two 011 promotion to Auckland, was entertained at AVanganiii on Saturday evening by a large gathering of business men. A presentation of a silver salver and a pursa of sovereigns was made. Mr. I?. A. "Wright, M.P., left for Pukekolie yesterday to purchase a young ostrich for the Wellington Zoo. Mr. Wright is obtaining the bird at his own expense. The ostrich will replace one of the pair which Mr. W. P. Massey (Leader of the Opposition) presented to tho city some timo ago, and which died. Mr. "W. Leggatt, who has been chief clerk at the Terrace Gaol for sonic considerable time, has been promoted to the position of gaoler at tho Waiotapu tree-planting canip. He leaves by the Main Trunk express to-day to take up las new duties. Captain Lindsay was a passenger for the south by tho Maori last evening. Captain Trask has resigned as the Nelson Club's delegate to the North Island Bowling Association, and Mr. P. Corliss has been appointed in his stead. Mr. Corliss was extended a welcome by the council of the association at its meeting last ■night. It was resolved at the meeting of tho Northern Bowling Association last night: "That this council record its sympathy with Mr. R. Motlies in the loss which ha has sustained in the death of his daughter." The "Southland News" records the death in Jnvercargill of Mr. rotor M'Ewen, a respected settler of tho early "'sixties, ancl a brother of the late Rev. Dr. M'Ewen, for many years minister of (he Knox Cl|un'h, Edinburgh. The deceased was one of the first presidents of Hie Inverce.rgill Athenaeum, and was closely associated with the Caledonian Society and Old .Settlers' Association. His son«. Messrs. P. and C. D. M'Ewen, arc residents ef AYellington. Bishop Mules, of Nelson, wishes it known that a recently-published statement, to the effect that he intended to resign at once, appeared "without authority from the person immediately concerned" (states a Press Association nt"s-s:-igo from Nelson). As far as Tun Dominion* is concerned, it was not stated that the Bishop intended to resign "nt once," but that "it is probable there will soon be another vacancy to be filled in the ranks of the Anglican opisrnmto, as it was rumoured that Bishon M'ulcs intended to resign at an early date." Commissioner J. T. Benge has resigned his sent on the Upper Hull Town Board. The election to fill the vacancy will bo held on July 1, on which day a poll on a proposal to borrow .toO'l for the erection of Town Board offices will be taken.
