Y.M.C.A. BOYS , DEPARTMENT.
One of the best addresses given to £ho members of the Y.M.C.A. Boys' Department was delivered on Saturday night , by Mr. Sedgwick, who has been touring the country with reference to placing Home boys on farms in thi9 land. It was a lantern lecture and veiy many interesting pictures were showi: of old London and present , London. The narrow streets ami crowded districts were vividly.placed before the eyes of all present. What appealed to the boys most was the wonderful transformation which took place in a poor slum boy after a period in a reformatory. The pictures showing ex-slum boys as sturdy athletes, with many cups, as proof of their ability, were received with groat applause. The lesson of the evening was "No matter how down a boy may be, if he is given a fair chalice ho will makb good." Jlr. Sodgwick assured the boys .that , he was only putting the Home boy's into jobs that the New Zealand boy refused. lie explained the chances 'that lay on a life on the land as compared to a city living. The mooting closed with t'he National Anthem. Mr. Driffield is to bn thanked for the use of his lantern and the operating of Bamo.
