The Mauavatu Coursing Club has had a very high compliment paid it, in having again boon allotted the competition for the Waterloo Cup. AU the military, including the various cadet corns, will assemble in Coleman Place, and, headed by the Palmerston and Salvation Army bands, march to the band rotunda in the Square, where the following will be the procedure:—"Unfurling tho flag, Royal Salute, singing of the National Anthem by the school children, the Lord's Prayer, singing of hymn "Old Hundredth," Scriptural reading, speeches by tho Mayor, Mr. D.. Buick, sl!\, and Captain Haydon (president of the Chamber of Commerce), hymn, "Praise the Lord," speeches by tho Revs. Hird and Hoschcr, singing of the National Anthem, Benediction. The Mayor and Colonel Pringle were appointed to make all arrangements. At a meeting of delegates of tho town s-chool committees last night, a deputation, comprising Messrs. R. Gardner, and T. B. Hoilder, and the Rev. T. T. Thomas, was appointed to wait on the Borough. Council to endeavour to induce that body to give three picture shows in aid of the school funds of the three State tchools. Mr. J. M. Wilson, of the Government Land Valuation Department, who has been promoted from this district to Wellington, wns presented last night by friends with a handsome silver tea service and tray for Mrs. Wilson, as a token of esteem. Mr. Wilson acknowledged the gift on behalf of his wife, and a number of toasts were honoured. The Manawatu Caledonian Society met last night and made a presentation lo Mr. G. M 'Donald, a most energetic member of the sonietv. of a valuable cafe of pipes, as a token of their esteem. Much regret was expressed at Mr. M'Dcaald's departure from the district, and ae I and his family received the hearty good wishes of all present.
