■ o RUMOURED RESIGNATION. It is probable that there will soon b# another vacancy to be filled in the ranks of the Anglican episcopate in New Zealand. Tlio Bishop of Nelson (Dr.Mules) is at present confined to his bed in Woodvillo. with an attack of lumbago, and it is rumoured that he will resign his bishopric at an early date. Some time ago it was understood that Dr. Mules, who is now 71 years Of age, intended (o retire, but was waiting -until the new Bishops of Auckland and Wellington had been appointed. Bishop Mules has had a long and useful career in the Church. 110 took the degreo of B.A. (senior oplime) at Cambridge in 18G0, and M.A. in 1863. lie was ordained Deacon in 18G1 and Priest ISGS. After holding appointments in England, ho camo to New Zealand, and was Vicar of Brightwater with Waimca West from ISCB to 1892; Chaplain to Bishop Sutor, XSG9-92; -and Archdeacon of Wairnen, 1E8(i----lie was consecrated Bishop of Nelson on February 24, 181)2, in St. Paul's ProCathedral, Wellington. , Probably never in Die whole history or tho Anglican Church of the Province of New' Zealand (which includes Melanesia) have (here been so many changes m tno Bench of Bishops as during the last twelve months.
