NEW COACH FOR AUCKLAND.; (By Telegraph.—Presß Association.) Auckland, June 6. Mr.'.T. H. Watts has received a telegram from Lord Hawke recommending G. J. Thompson, of Northamptonshire,, 'aa coach to tho Auckland Cricket Association. The association have cabled engaging him. . Thompson is 34 years of age. In the season 11)03-4 ho was one of the two professional cricketers included in Lord Hawke's team for the New Zealand tour, and did exceedingly well. During the last visit of tho Australian eleven to England in 190!), ho was selected for Lngland and performed well. Ho was also a member of tho M.C.C. • team to tour South Africa in 1900-10 ■ and, besides bowling well, was second only t'o J. B. Hobbs in tho batting averages in the five, test matches. In first-cless matches dirting the last English season Thompson scored 1021 runs (including two centuries! for an average of 23.74, and jook 129 Wickets at an average cost of 17.80.
