M'Arthur, S.M., presided over Ui« monthly meeting of the Lower Hutt Magistrate's Cuurt yesterday morning and associated with him on the Bench were Messrs. Cudbv and Wilkin, .I.l'. s. William 11." Miller was convietwl and fined 55., with Court costs 75., for being found on licensed premises alter hours. Defendant did not appear, but handed in a written statement'. She was convicted and ordered to pay Court costs 75., in default 21 hours' imprisonment. I'or a breach of a prohibition order Benjamin Mudgway was convicted and fined 10s., Court costs 75., or 48 hours imprisonment. A number of parents were proceeded Egainst by the Tr.innt Inspector (Mr. J. Dincen) tor failing to send their children to school regularly. John Simpson proceeded ngamst I'redcrick Foster for tiie recovery of JCS, value of a dog which plaintiff alleged that he hud lent the defendant. Defendant claimed (he dog was given him as a gift. After heai'iit" evidence the magistrate held that plaint had not proved that he sold the dfig ami judgment was entered for dofondant, but' no costs were allowed. Mr. Ayson appeared for plaintiff and Mr. Dix for defendant. It. Walker sued John O'Keefe for £5 15s. fid., alleged cost of renovating a house. After the legal business of the Magi» (.rate's Court had been dispoMil of, the animal meeting of the Unit Licensing Committee was held. Dr. M'Arthur pre< sided, and there were with him .on the Bench Messrs. 0. Stevens, Ryder, Cotton, and Cudby. Renewal of licenses were granted in the following cases:-Taila Hotel, V. h. Bryan; Central Hotel, Pelone, J. S. Plotchsr; Provincial Hotel, Upper Hutt, It. Qiiinn; Ik'llbvue Hotel, T. Kingston; Grand National, Petone, W. J. Jorgcnson; Empire Hotel, Petone, H. J. Palmer; Victoria Hctel, Pelone, E. L. Barnes; Railway Hotel, Lower Hult, V. Higßott; Family Hotel, I/ower Hult, J. Young; Central Hotel, Lower Hult, W. J. Ucfl> ins; 'JVonthain , Hotel, J. Cress. A. J. Lees, Loner Hutt, was granted a renewal of his wholesale license. Temporary transfers wcru granted from J. Kingston (Bcllevue Hotel) to A. Avison, and from 1 ,, . Higgolt (Railway Hotel. Lower Hutt) lo E. Dwyer. No objections were made by the police, and Dr. M'Arthur said he was very pleased that this was so. .Tho reports wcro very satisfactory, and he trusted that would continue to be so. He was sorry to 6J-.y that Mr. Inglis had had to resign his position on the commiltce, through, ill-health, and ho wished him (Mr. Inglis) a speedy recovery. ■ Mr J. J. M'Gralh, replying on behalf of the Licensed Victuallers' Association, (hanked his Worship and the Bench lor the appreciative remarks passed, and a so expressed regret at the retirement of Mr. liiglis.
