Leaving Lyttelton on May 27 for Wellington, the schooner Amelia Sims did not reach port until 3.45 a.m. on Saturday —a week, later. From the time of her departure from the southern port until 4 p.m. on Friday the little vessel met with light north-west winds and seas, and thence a fresh southerly breeze until arrival. The Amelia Sims has a full load of produce to discharge here. Subsequently she proceeds to Havelock to load timber for Lyttelton. HOW S.S. MOERAKI GROUNDED. In regard to tho grounding of the Moefalu in the Derwent on May 18, the Hobart 'Mercury gavo t h e following particulars at the time of the mishap :-vTho vessel entered the river at 8.30 a.m., at reduced speed, and Captain J. Rolls had great difficulty in finding his <vay up to the estuary. At Howrah the fog got denser, and after the space of about half an hour tho vessel slowly and almost silently groundth/m„ff e b T Ca s h .i lt acllerive, just? below the Bluff. Just then tho fog lifted and Captain Rolls was able to see "hero he was. Thei order was given "full a"ern " and the ship drew off as unostentatiously as she had gone on the sandbank. The passengers did not cvinco any signs of uneasiness;, in fact, there was nothing to warrant any alarm. Fortunately, the snot ? n ,7 hlC nu, th V' ess ?'- mounded was a °andv spit. The Moeraki was turned wharfwards, and a little time later was berthed alongside Princes Wharf." ">-"nca At 9 a.m. to-day the small coastal steamer Aorere will bo taken off tho Patent Telegraphic advice received from Aurkand states that R.M.S. The second and third engineers of the Hauroto have been promoted a step, and Mr. Head, lato of tho steamer Kahu, has joined tho Hauroto as third engineer. Tho "stand-by" ship Mourn,,has been put in sea-going order at Dunedin. This is regarded as an indication that she may be required to proceed to tho Islands in connection with the Tofua striking a reef there. It is understood in Launceston (says the Hobart "Mercury") that a Supreme Court writ has been issued against the Union Steam Ship Company on behalf of tho widow of John Constantine, claiming substantial damages for the loss of her husband. Constantine, who was a wharf labourer employed by the company, met his death on board tho s.s. Wakatipu about two months ago through tome of the gear falling, upon him.
