There wero world-wide celebrations and congratulations. , The. Maoris, Cingalese, and other natives at the White City walked in .procession, and.saluted the King's statue. They also danced and sang. , The King thanked lite Maoris.for their message of homage and greeting. ITS OBSERVANCE HERE. The birthday of His Majesty King George. V was honoured in Wellington with a Roval Salute of 21 guns, fired by a detachment of (he Royal N.Z. Artillery from . the saluting battery at Pipitea Point. Against the southerly wind the roar of the old-fashioned bronze guns was heard but faintly in Te Aro, and not at all in Wellington Soath. As lias already been .slated, it was decided to remove "the saluting battery to a new site, and the progress of tho reclamation works at Pipitea will no doubt hasten the accomplishment of this design. Nothing further has been heard of the proposal to establish the guns at Kelburne Park. TRAIN AND TRAM TRAFFIC. The train traffic to the Otaki Races on Saturday was exceptionally heavy—l7oo excursionists being carried to the meeting— 950 from the city and 750 from Palmerston, I'eilding, and other West Coast towns. Between 300 and 400 excursionists from town attended the trotting meeting at Grey-town. The figures given above do not include those who travelled by the express and ordinary passenger trains. Tho tramways were patronised In all parts of the city. Owing to the cold weather the seaside resorts did not attract so many excursionists as usual on. holidays. (By Telegraph-Press Association.)
