A NEW MINISTER,

AT THE CHURCH OP CHRIST,

Mr. A. J. Saunders, M.A., late of Chicago, commenced yesterday his ministry et the Vivian Street Church of Christ. The new minister is a young man of energetic uppearance, and has a manner which ranges from pleasantness in conversation to earnestness in preaching. 'There were large attendances at yesterday's services, especially in the evening, .when tho church was quite full. The services were conducted throughout by •the new minister, and were'of the, simple character, which is customary in the denomination. Mr. Saunders preached in the evening from the words, "Come unto Me, and 1 will Give you Rest." He said that the principal thing needed by tho men and yomen of to-day was the spirit of sympathy that came through tho Gospel—a message of love, tenderness, and helpfulness, which would get hold of a person and lift him to a higher perception of life, of service, and of union with the Eternal God. Going on to tho words, "Take My yoko upon you," the preacher said it might bo asked how such an invitation could be regarded as a message to the British people, who had such a love for freedom and to whom liberty meant so much. Ho thought the truth was that everyone had some load to draw, some burden to carry, and the Saviour offered himself to each as a yoke-fellow, a companion and friend who would take tho main weight of tho yoke and >mako the load easy to draw. The message of Christ also told of tho fatherhood of God, the brotherhood of man, the damnation of sin, and the means of salvation from sin. During the service, tho hymn, "Come Unto Me," was sung as a solo by Mr. Bewley. To-morrow tho minister will be welcomed nt a tea, and there will be a public meeting afterwards. '
