Ilolmcs, euginccr-in-ehiof, who some time ago was authorised by the Minister for Marino to report on the best means of reducing the danger existing at the mouth of the river entrance to this port, lias submitted a lengthy report. The report outlines the works Hint will bo necessary, and his recommendation'! comprise:—Breakwater extension, ,£1)0,000; mole, .€10,000; dredging, ■£50,000; iettv or wharf, inclusive of raitwav connection, .€20.000; contingencies, .€17,000; total, .CIS?, 000. The scheme is to provide accommodation for vessels drawing up to 20 feet, and the report will be considered next mcctins of the board.
