For keeping a shop open in Mansfield Street on Sunday, May 21, for the purpose of transacting business, Olive Elizabeth Hogg was fined 205., and court costs lis. Defendant did not appear. BREACHES OF BY-LAWS. . Frederick A. Johnson pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to obtain a permit to carry out plumbing work at Kilbirnie Road, Roseneath. He was fined 10s., and court costs 7s. John Watters, who did not appear, was fined 205., and court costs 75., for failing to clear gorse off a section.. For allowing a chimney to catch fire in Adelaide Eoad, Edward Ellis was fined 55., with costs 95., and witness's expenses 4s. William Tremain admitted having attempted to board a tramear while it was iu motion, tho date of the offence being April 19. He was convicted and ordered to pay court costs 13s, WANDERING HORSES. For allowing five horses to be at large, Easson, Ltd., were fined ss. and court costs 7s. A similar fine was imposed in the.case of. Alfred Bradley, who was tie owner of a horse. William Fitzgerald, whose horse had been impounded, was convicted and ordered to pay court costs Us., and witness's expenses fs. • , ;,. .OTHER, CASES. Daniel Sullivan, who it was stated had-been recently discharged from H.M.S. Pioneer, pleaded guilty to a charge of indecency in Vogeltown, and was sentenced to'two months' imprisonment, a prohibition order to issue against him. Mr. E. J. Filzgibbon appeared for accused. A first-offending inebriate, was eon.victed and discharged. CLAIM. AND COUNTERCLAIM, (Before Dr. A. M'Arthur, S.M.) Yesterday there was further hearing of the civil case in which G. H. Jackson and Co., oil and colour merchants, 2 Cuba Street, sued Henry North, wire-mattress manufacturer, of Littlo Tnrnnaki Street, to recover the sum of £1 55., alleged to be due as balance of an account for painting and papering in connection with a residence .at Norton Terrace, Kilbirnie. Defendant counter-claimed for .£3O ICs., alleging that he had suffered damage to thnt-extont- in • connection-with-the - contract for plainting and papering carried out bv plaintiff. Mr. D. Jackson appeared for plaintiff, and Mr. F. G. Bolton for defendant. As the evidence was not concluded last evening, an adjournment was granted until Tuesday next.
