(From Our Special Correspondent.) fr AN ESTEEMED VICAR. On Thursday evening at St. Augustine's Hall a public farewell was tendorcd to tho Rev. J. D. Russell,, who leaves on Tuesday next for Oamaru. The Mayor (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan) occupied the chair, and tho attendance filled the hall. ~'.,. Musical items were Tondercd by tho Misse> Kibblewhitc, Andrews, and Castle, and Messrs. Medhurst, C&mbournc, and House. * During the evening Mr. J. G. Castle, on behalf of tho parishioners of St. Augustine's parish-, presented Mr. Russell with a purso of sovereigns, and a silver jug from tho Girls' Friendly Society, and a marblo clock from tho Young Ladies Bible Class.- , ~ L Mr. Castle spoke in very, feeling terras regarding the departing'vicar, of his untiring work-in the district, and of how the church had increased. Other speakers were Mr. D. Kerr, Rev. A. Thomson, Rev. Mr. Johnson, and Mr. Sussex. The wholo of tho district clergymen were on the platform, as well as representatives of the Petone Navals. Mr. Russell will deliver his final address on Sunday next, when a church parade of Petone Navals will be hold, and also the unveiling of a memorial tablet in memory of deceased members of tho naval corps. '
