Some timo ago a workman in Paris lost six pigeons, and accused a neighbour of stealing them. Tho latter was brought before a magistrate, but us each man stoutly said the birds were his, it was not easy to' settle tho case. Howovor, tho magistrate was equal to the occasion. Ho had the pigeons takon into his room, and fastened a tiny bit of sealing-wax to a leg of each, so that ho might know them again, and set them free. Ho then bado his secretary accompany tho neighbour home, while lio went with tho workman. On arriving at tho street in which both lived, all tho pigeons were found in tho workman's pigeon-cote. Tho magistrate concluded that he was tho rightful owner of thorn, and ordered the neighbour into custody, to bo tried for tho theft.
