WOMEN AND TRAMS.
The question of reduced tram fares for workmen was being discussed before the Victorian Traffic Coin mission recently, says the "Sydney Morning Herald," when, a member asked Alderman Milson whether if he favoured reduced fares to workmen he would favour still lower fares to women since they received lower wages than men. "They take up just as much room as men," said the witness. "They .take up more, sometimes," commented an ungallant commissioner. Alderman Milson thought a further division of fares was not practicable. The ladies were further considered when the tram svstem was discussed. Alderman Jlilson said the high steps' of the trams in Sydney were awkward for old and infirm people "and ladies wearing hobbl" skirts." "Tfearers of harem skirts will not object," interposed a coirimissioner. When the commission came to consider the congestion of traffic at the hours when the factories closed a commissioner asked whether if the males commenced work at, say, 7.15 or 7.30, and came out early, and the females started at, say, fl a.m., and camo out later, the difficulty would not be overcome. "It would if you could getthem to fo home straightway." was Alderman Milson's answer, but lie was apparently doubtful if they would. "If the females came out first they would run after the males—they. have been doing that from the very first," the aforesaid commissioner nsain interposed. His suggestion was that the men should he sent home first. Alderman Milsou said a member of Parliament who interfered with the liberty of a subject in that wavwould run a risk of not being re-elected." A FEMININE HANDICAP. TOO MUCH HAIR. Hair is glorious in its place; hut out of place it is a misery, grievous to bo borne, as many women, know;. Unfortunately, too, the usual depilatories are dangerous, destructive to the skin, and in every way unpleasant. But thero is one perfectly safe and efficacious cure. It is pleasant to use, and it does not injurethe skin in the slightest degree. Novena Hair Destroyer is sold in jars, ss. 6d. For another annoyance, Valaze Blackhead and Open Pore Cure is invaluable. In tins, 2s. 9d. And there is a tronble commoner than all. It is a defect to which some of the prettiest women are subject—the discomforting moist or "greasy" skin. Valaze Lirjuidine, Bs. 6d., is the greatest remedy yet discovered for this trouble. In bottles.. Valaze is peerless for its purpose as a skin-food—as THE skin-food—and there it stops. Keeps the skin clear, smooth, and supple, free from freckles, lines, and blotches. In jars, is. and 7s. Among the constituents of Valazo thero is positively none that could promote the growth of hair. Of leading chemists, or direct, post free, from the Maisou Valaze, 23 Brandon Street, Wellington 3 Boarding Mistress: "Is thero anything wrong with that egg, Mr. Jones? I see you according it a very critical examination." Mr. Jones: "Oh, not anything wrong with the egg, Mrs. Skimpen. I was just looking for tho wishbone, that's all." THE CORONATION EXHIBITION. The Hobble Skirt is smart, but inconvenient, and at times dangerous. My model "Rational Skirts," as exhibited on the Stand at the left-hand cntranre to tho Concert Hall, is undoubtedly "The Skirt" of tho immedialo future: combining the smart appearance of the "Hobble" and the freedom of the muchabused but "Rational Harem."
