(By Telccraph.-SDecial Correspondent.! Wanganui, June 1. The following aro the vital statistics:— May: Births, 47 (pievious May 43); marriages 12 (lo); deaths 17 (17). For tho five months' ending May 31: —Births, 217 (sume period last: year 'slO); marriages, 75 (.87); deaths, G5 (7b).
The Customs duties collected at the port of Wanganui during May amounted to .£07(11 Bs. Id., an increase of .CUSS Is. 2d. over the figures for May, 1910. The exciso duty was .£30!) ISs. lid., a decrease of JCL 4s. Id.
The Beautifying Society has allocated a total of XS2S 'for work at eight different points in the town and suburbs, The money will be spent chiefly in the planting and the laying-out of grounds. In addition the society has set aside a further sum of ,£SS for procuring native trees and shrubs, and ■ purchasing specimen trees from Australia and Japan. The recent consignment of trees from Japan arrived in splendid order with scarcely a loss.
The annual report of the District' Nursing T.cnßuo shows that the work during the year was of an extremely useful nml helpful chancier, ami the interest in the League's operations well Mistniiipd.'
