Ministers in town to-day are tho Hon. J. Carroll, the Hon. J. A. Millar, the Hon. G. Tow-Ids, tho Hon. D. Buddo, and the Hon. A. T. Ngata. Tho Hon. E. M'Kenzie, who has been in Southland, is espected to reach Dunedin to-day, and the Hon. T. Mackenzie will be duo at Balclutha.
The Hon. T. Mackenzie arrived at Christchurch from Wellington yesterday morning, and left for tho south by tho second express. On Friday Mr. Mackenzie opens the new post office at Balclutha. He will also attend the Dunedin Winter Show.—Press Association.

Captain H. 0. Knox, director of the New Zealand Army Service Corps, arrived from London yesterday by the Turakina. Captain Knox is accompanied by his wife and family.
Mr. Douglas Henderson, of tho head office staff of tho Bank of New South Wales in Wellington, has received notice of his transfer to Sydney, and is leaving for Australia by tho Moeraki to-morrow.
Yesterday afternoon, Mr. P. Selig, manager of the Christehurch "Press" Company, who is about to leavu on an extended health trip to Australia, was presented with an address by (ho commercial staff of the company, and also with a handsome travelling bag.—Press Association.
There have been rumours in circuit tion in Wellington that Mr. A. A. Corrigan is resigning the managership of the D.I.C. here. When consulted as to the truth or otherwise of the rumour, Mr. Corrigan stated that it was entirely without foundation, and he could not conceivo how such an impression could havo got abroad.
The Rev. J. Baird, who is visiting New Zealand, arrived at Wellington from London yesterday by the Turakina. Mr. ,T. R. W. Taylor, of the Canadian-Pacific Railway, also arrived by the sntno steamer.
During the absence of Mr. F. G. Waldegrave, who leaves to-day for the Cook Islands, his duties as Commissioner of Police will be discharged by Mr. C. E. Matthews, chief cleric.
Miss Alma Barber, the favourite, musical comedy actress, left Sydney for London by the Opliir on Saturday last. She has recently been appearing in "he Ion;; run of "Our Miss Gibbs."
Mr. J. Lomas, Secretary for Labour, and Mr. Temple, architect to the Labour Department, left for Auckland yesterday on business connected witli the workers' dwellings scheme.
Mr. J. R. Thorn, manager for Messrs. John Walker and Co., whisky distillers, arrived from London by the Turakina. Sir. Thorn will spend a few days in Wellington before going on to Dunedin.
Sir. B. Jay, dircclor of Messrs. Edgar and Co,, Ltd., Moorfiolds, London, was a passenger by the. Turakina which reached Wellington yesterday.
The Rev. J. R, Cassoll, M.A., vicar of Hawcra, has been granted leave of absence from the end of May to the middle of January, 1912, in order to visit England*
Mr. J. B. Harconrt, has been confined to his bed for some time pasl, but his health is now improving.
Captain. Evans arrived from Sydney yesterday, and will lake command of the Aorangi to-day, vice Captain Collins.
Mr. Coanes, consulting engineer to the Pacific Phosphate Company, is a through passenger to Papeete by the Aorangi, which arrived from Sydney yesterday.
Mr. M. J. H. Blow, Under-Secretary for Public Works, will arrive, from the south next Sunday morning.
Sir. Harry Douglas, a well-knoivn Australian actor, who has often visited New Zealand, died in the Sydney Hospital on Wednesday of last week. His connection with the stage goes right back to the days of Williaim Holloway and Essie Jenyns', with whom he pla/ed through New Zealand in a Shakespearean repertoire. Talking of those days, Air. Douglas used to say of others—"l've seen (hem all, but there never was a Juliet like Essie .lenyns."' Of late years Mr. Dougla's has been doing rough character work with the Anderson Dramatic Company, but the writer can remember the dead actor essay Hie role of Tngom.ir to the Parthcnia of Miss Janet 'Waldorf. With, that actress he also played Montague in "Borneo and Juliet." At tho time lie was taken ill ho was touring with the Kate Howard Company. Tho deceased actor was about 65 years of age.
Tho Queensland Minister for Railways has announced that Mr. King, DeputyCommissioner for Railways, had been granted six months' leave of absence from Juno 1, preparatory to retirement from the service.
