IBy TclcEraph.-SDccial Correspondent.! „,, , Wanganui, May 31. three boys were charged in tne Juvenile Court this morning with discharging firearms to the danger of life and property. They were severely dealt with by tho magistrate, who said that ho was determined to put down what was becoming a menace to public safety. Two of the hoys were fined £1 and the third .£l. Belated applications for defence registration are now rushing in but, so far, there are still some hundreds whose names are not yet on,the roll.
Mr. Kerr, S.M., has given judgment in the case Ross v. Hatriclc and Co. Plaintiff sued for ,£37 damages alleged to have been caused by tho negligence of defendants' servants, Plaintiff was the owner of the trading launch Benares and, while she was lying at the landing at Pungarelui on the Wnnganui River, she was sunk in consequence (so plaintiff alleged) of defendants' steamer Waimarie passing too close and swamping her with the backwash. On facts, ns adduced by t'w> evidence, the magistrate found that' the steamer was not too close, and had been carefully navigated, and plaintiff (with ordinary care and removing to deeper water on the approach of the steamer) could have prevented the accident. Judgment, was therefore given for defendant with costs.
