KARORI TEAM STILL LEADING. REPRESENTATIVES CHOSEN. Karori 8 Y.M.CA. 1 Wellington 1 United 0 College 4 Wosley 0 The club championship games were continued on Saturday on rather heavy grounds, and in cold wintry weather. Some importance attached to tho games for two reasons. Firstly, the senior grade teams have only one more game each to finish the first round; secondly, the selector (Mr. H. V. Walton) made his choice of a representative eleven known at the close of the games on Saturday. This is the team to meet Manawatu next Saturday in a challenge shield match at Day's Bay. Karori maintain first position, with College only one point behind. Wellington are next, and then follow United, Y.M.C.A., mid Wesley, the last two with one point each. KARORI-Y.M.C.A. Both teams played one man short. Karori were much superior to their opponents, and held the upper hand most of th° time. On the other hand, Y.M.CA. played extremely well, and sheer hard luck prevented a total of four goals.
Lower and Darics for Karori wero very soon manoeuvring round the Y.M.C.A. goal-mouth, the latter with a push stroke just failing to score. Murphy presently received'the leather from JDavies, and shot from off-side, then Loader was now seen in a daring piece ■of play. Ho ran doivn and passed all tho Karori backs. With only tho goalkeeper to beat, he shot high, the ball passing over the ■ top of the bar. The scoring account was opened per medium of Lewer—Karori's centre-forward—with an easy dribbling shot. Hall then made an attempt for Karon with an off-side shot, and shortly after Davies receive! from Hall, the former notching the Black's second goal. Lewer was ihe initial mover for (he third goal, Davies giving Holmes no chance of "saving." Y.M.C.A. now pressed, but Loader's next attempt made the ball fly high. Robertson—Y.Jf.C.A. right-wing—was now conspicuous. He received.a. hard pass from Loader on the opposite-wing,' ; and boot Putnam, but failed to pass the opposing goal-keeper. Loader, Parton, and Brotherton now displayed some scientific work, but again Loader's shot went high. Paul, too, sent up a "sky-scraper."' ' T~ _The second spell was tho signal for Karori to force matters and, before long, Davies scored, Howden, in goal, falling when attempting to "save." The scoro now read: Karori, 4; Y.M.C.A., 0. A fme movement by Loader, following upon a free-hit by Holmes, resulted in the former sending up another of his wide shots. Lewer was tho next man to try his luck but, unfortunately; was ruled oif-side. Karori continued to press, and Murphy secured, passed to Canipbell, thence to Lewer, the latter registering Karori's seventh goal. Murphy shortly ■sent up a certain goal, but Haasn threw his stick at tho ball, the result being a penalty "bnlly" against him. Tho pen.alty was taken twice, Haaso being successful in "saving" a goal. Followingupon this Loader rushed down field, and the leather went to Robertson who scored the Y.M.C.A. goal. Lewer scored for Karori just before the call of time. Mr. J. C. Pope was referee.
WELLINGTON-UNITED. Wellington secured a well-deserved victory over United on No. 1 Ground, Day's Bay. ' United attacked from the outvt, and forced Wellington to concede several "corners." Tho latter warned off the attacks which followed upon tho freehits, and finally United secured again, the ball failing to enter the net through bad shooting. Onco again the Reds (United) forced play, only to find their opponents returning the overture which necessitated Dwyer, in goal, "saving." Hall (Wellington) was prime mover in a piece of play which brought his side tho only goal of the day. He sent tho leather amongst his forwards, Dunn finally registering a score by a good shot. In tho second .spell both sides went to work cheerfully and each almost succeeded in adding to the tally., United made efforts to score near the close of the game. They pressed the opposition, but luck was against them. This is tho third defeat for United this season. Mr. J. Gendall was referee.
COLLEGE-WESLEY. Karori was the scene of action for Jlhis match. College broko away per medium of G. Strack, hut Wesley soon returned the attack. On two occasions College conceded a "corner," but they managed prcscutlv to penetrate the opposing defence. Jfitt had an "off-side" shot, but followed it shortly with a correct • one. Play was of an uninteresting order to the end of the first spell, but College had the better of it. Tho second spell opened with more vigour. College displayed their truo form and l'itt was successful with' a verv hot goal shortly •xfter tho commencement. The Greens -till kept up the pressure, and, from a subsequent "corner" ■« follow fivnur C Strack sent in a swift shot, which'had the desired effect. Following upon another "corner , against . V esley, a scramble near the goa -mouth took place G. SI rack finally sending up a high but effective shot. College then appeared content to let matters stand as they were, the result being that Wesley now availed themselves of every opportunity, but did not effect a score. Tho game ended College, 4-0. Mr. M'Kcnzie was referee.
