RAILWAY SHOPS FOR HASTINGS.
A MOVEMENT ON 'FOOT, A public meeting-has been -called for. ihis evening, to consider the matter of urging on the Government the desirability of establishing railway workshops in Hastings. Tho present is considered an opportuno moment for this movement, in view of tho fact that the railway yards at Napier were completely submerged during tho recent floods. It is claimed that wore an engine to become disabled nt such a time the Hawke's Bay service, depending as it does now, solely upon Napier for repair work, might be "very seriously in* convenienced. In this connection it is reported Hhat fivo acres of land at the north end of Station Street,, Hastings, has been offered to tho Government free of charge for the purpose of erecting Government railway workshops. •
