Tho Masterton Collie Dog Club continued its trails at To Ore Oro to-day. The result of heading, driving, and I yarding competition was as follows:— Mr. A. At tho Police Court this afternoon, a middle-aged woman, a native of India, sought separation from her English husband, John Lupton, on the ground that ho always wanted to'kick her out. They wero married in Suva, explained tho husband. He took her on a five years' contract from tho Government, and paid £10 odd for the privilege. They could not live together, because they ■ disagreed on everything. As neither of the parties had any desire to livo together, the magistrate made an oj-dor of maintenance for 12s. a week. There were do children of the marriage. j A CHINESE ENTERPRISE. Wairoa, May 26. At tho Magistrate's Court to-day, a Chinaman was convicted on two charges of sly grog-selling, and was fined £15, with costs (£22 165.), in default ono month's imprisonment and fourteen days' respectively. On a chargo that he supplied liquor to a Native for consumption off the premises, tho same accused was fined 305., with costs (9s. 6d.), in default fourteen days' imprisonment. The sentences are to be cumulative. MOUNTED RIFLES "GIVE UP." Oamaru, May 26. At a , meeting hold last evening, the North Otago Mounted Rifles decided to disband on tho ground that it was impossible to comply with the Territorial regulations as regards tho number of parades. BRIEF MENTION. Blenheim, May 26. The local schools closed yesterday for a month owing to an outbreak of measles.
