(By TelcErapli.-Snccial Correspondent.} Masterton, May 25. Mr. W. H. Cruickshank, land agent, of Mastortnn, lias, in conjunction with Mr. .T. D. Cruickshank. of Wellington, sold "Mr. H. Burling's Brookland estate at Alfred ton, comprising 5730 acres, .together with sheep, cattle, and plant, to Mr. 0. C. Cooper, of Masterton. The estate is ono of the best in tlio Alfmlton district, having been farmed by the present owner for forty-seven years. At a meeting of the Friendly Societies' Council in Masterton Inst evening, nominations wore received for the sevenaside football match from the whole of the Friendly Societies of Cartortoii and Masterton. Positions were also drawn for the. first round of the card tournament. Important improvements are being effected at the grounds of the Lansdowno School. These include a iin? lawn and an agricultural plot.. A special and general meeting of the. Wairarapa Hospital and Charitable Aid Board is to be held at Greytown on Wednesday next, to consider the plans for tho. proposed Home for Incurables. The election of three members of -tho Masterton Trust Lands Trust took placo to-day, and resulted as fo lowy-O. Pragnsll, -JOBj T. B. Michell, 465; J. H. lauling, 419; H. C. Kobinson, 338. The first three were elected. In the senior hockey matches played to-day, Masterton Tost and _ lelegraph drew with Carterton. neither sitlo scoring. Excelsior defeated Masterton by , goals to nil. The directors of the Wellington Farmers' Meat Company have issued a circular to shareholders in which an opinion is sought on the proposal to increase tho capacity of the works, partinilnrlv in regard to storage, which is held to be essential in view of the fluctuation of markets.
