ATTEMPTED LYNCHINGS BY
WHITES. By Telegraph—l'rcss Association-OopyriKht (Rec. May 23, 11.15 p.m.) Cape Town, May 23. A further series of native outrages on women and reprisals by tho whites is reported from different parts of tho country. An organised attempt has been made at Port Elizabeth to lynch a native guilty .of a criminal assault on a girl. The police at Bergville, Natal, frustrated an attempt to lynch a native for attempting to criminally assault two ladies. Mr. Lewis, a leading- citizen of Bnlawayo, killed a native who was accused of indecency towards his littlo girls. WOODLUPINE MURDER. . i SUSPECTED MAN ARRESTED. By Telecraph-Pross Associatton-Oopyriirtat (Rec. May 21, I.W a.m.) Perth, May 23. The man Smithson, who is wanted on a charge of murdering Francis Elizabeth Compton, tho 18-year-old daughter of an English immigrant, at Woodhipinc, on May 13, has .been captured in tho bush near Elsternwick, a hundred miles north of Perth. The man is being brought down by train to Perth.
