In coiinectioii.'-'with the' Government's scheme for the erection of workmen's homes, Mr. ' Carmichael, Assistant-Minis-ter for Agriculture, has cabled, to Mr. T. A. Edison for information regarding tho cost of a concrete house plant. Mr. Edison announced in June, 1909, that he had completed his design for the construction of houses of concrete, by moans of moulds,' which would e.nable a house costing JESOOO or £6000 under ordinary circumstances, to'bo erected for =£-10. Ho added a reservation that this cost would only apply where a number of houses were built to the same pattern. Tho moulds would.be constructed of cast iron; four days would be occupied by the setting of the cement, and four days for the removal of the moulds.
